“BOOTCAMP OF INTERACTIVE EDUCATION”

Using ICT in education: interactive learning through media production

The objectives:

1. provide media production and ICT use related skills, knowledge and new tools to teacher trainees;
2. to enhance the skills of teacher trainees in the production and use of interactive creative learning methodologies, in creating a stimulating and motivating learning environments and learning processes for the students;
3. to enhance the skills of teacher trainees in relating learning to everyday life (seeing learning as part of everyday life) and integration between disciplines and subject fields.

The target group:
2nd or (in UK) 3rd year teacher trainees/students (on Bachelor level) from 4 partner institutions (primary education trainees: teaching classes 5-10 in Norway, 1-6 in Estonia, and UK, 1-9 in Denmark).

The main activities:
1) Creation of educational videos by teacher trainees/students:
- Learning through interaction (directly and through common workspace - Dropbox) and reflection as a process (reflecting and analysing each other’s work);
- Learning to use different technologies to produce educational videos (high-tech equipment e.g. video cameras and video editing software; low-tech equipment e.g. video functionality of the mobile phone, screen-cast software).
- learning to use different types of educational videos
- reflection through the use of video-blogs
- receiving guidance from lecturers through learning activities targeting certain competences (use of technological tools, examples of videos etc);
- analysing the strengths and the weaknesses of the educational videos and thereby learning through reflection how to produce good educational videos; IP focus not on the producing itself but learning and teaching - learning through experience (Dewey).
- The students seeing the progress in their work (through the first video and the last video created by students)
- Learning how to include general school students in such interactive processes

2) Creation of student video-blogs and workspaces in order to evaluate and reflect on the learning processes and to store the practical results of learning processes.

3) Creation of IP webpage as a means of sharing the students’ work and dissemination of IP results.

4) Integration of general school students and teachers in the reflection, assessment and feedback of the student-generated educational material (by applying the videos in general school classrooms in Läänemaa schools at the end of the IP).

The duration of the IP is two weeks in April 2012:
- The 1st week of the IP the focus is on storyboard, filming, editing, presenting/publishing;
- The 2nd week of the IP the focus is on "low effort" use of educational videos by creating videos using screencast software, mobile phones' video functionality and photostory.
